Freshen up the homes of area seniors and other low-income homeowners. Our Brush with Kindness repair program is painting apartments at the Brookfield Housing Senior living complex, and at occupant-owned homes of area low-income residents for a fraction of the cost. Our mission is to help people stay in their homes and to do preventative maintenance. Small jobs are our specialty. Volunteers for all kinds of repair work are needed on an ongoing basis.

Love Christmas? We celebrate year-round

Do you love Christmas? Housatonic Habitat for Humanity celebrates Christmas throughout the year in preparation for a month-long holiday event, Wrapping for Habitat at the Danbury Fair mall in December. Throughout the year, we are making bows and fundraising for wrapping paper and tape. Be part of the activities. More than 200 volunteers in shifts wrapped more than 5,000 gifts at the mall during December. Be part of our fundraising which builds homes locally. If you want to keep the holiday spirit alive, join us.

Chair a committee…share your knowledge

Housatonic Habitat for Humanity is looking for community leaders to lend their expertise as we re-build our local affiliate to build affordable homes for working families and develop a repair program for seniors, handicapped, and other low-income groups, and move our ReStore, a thrift-type home improvement warehouse to its next level. Go beyond the hammer to help us build for tomorrow! Committee needs include: volunteer recruitment, fundraising, special events planning, social media marketing, communications and ReStore sales.

Help us partner with sponsors

Housatonic Habitat builds and repairs homes locally. As part of the construction team, you will take our construction materials list and find those in the trades who can donate products and services. Our homes are sold at cost to working families so for our next new home it is important for us to keep prices low. Same, too, for the repairs we make for the elderly, handicapped, and poor through our Brush with Kindness repair program. This is a challenge which is very rewarding. Go beyond the hammer!

We have recently raised the roof on a current build so we need volunteers. If you are skilled on interior construction of a home, have basic carpentry know-how and the ability to work as a team to help with the handling and movement of construction materials, we need you!

Keep our warehouse ship shape!

We have an 11,000 square foot warehouse which is home to our ReStore thrift store, construction, and affiliate offices. We need volunteers who can help us with maintenance and other facilities management. Do you have facilities experience that you can share? We’ll handle the snow and trash removal if you can help us with the day-to-day facilities issues.

Housatonic Habitat is part of the outstanding Habitat for Humanity brand. We need help with local marketing and publications that incorporate the international brand but celebrates our local vibrancy and personality. Are you a cheerleader? Mentor our homeowners

Habitat does more than build homes. It helps first-time homeowners learn about financial planning, money management, home maintenance, and repair. We need individuals who will work with our homeowners so that we can improve their capacity to not only become homeowners but to stay homeowners! Want to build homes for families without lifting a hammer? We are looking for receptionists to help in the office directing inquiries and helping with meetings, marketing and basic Microsoft duties. You name your time… Monday through Friday in a volunteer friendly, barrier-free office easily accessible from our gated parking lot. Be part of our mission to change the lives of working families with children.

Would you like to hunt for treasure every day?

Are you a treasure hunter…bargain hunter? What better way to hunt than at the source! Our 1100 square foot thrift warehouse receives new items daily. Be the first to see new or almost new items donated by big box stores or unique items from an estate sale. We are looking for volunteers who like working with customers...others who like merchandising…others who can help us with stock. We need back office help too.

Restore of Habitat in Danbury is a building supply thrift store that recycles new and gently used items donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. The donations are sold to the public at very low prices, the proceeds which are used to help build Habitat homes.

Are you a party animal? We host events throughout the year that include tag sales, wine tastings, lobsterfest, fashion show, and others. We need people who can help us plan…help us host…and help us with underwriting. Join us and be part of our special events array of fun activities which raises funds to build Habitat homes locally. No gift of time is too small. Creativity always appreciated! Great way to meet new people who are helping others.
