“Look before you leap” was the advice from a panel of financial and real estate experts at the First-Time Homeowners Workshop recently held at Housatonic Habitat for Humanity in Danbury.
The workshop was presented as collaboration between Habitat, the Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust, a HUD-supported agency, and Fairfield County Bank. Beverly Hoppie from the Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust gave an overview of the process aided by Donna Chillemi of Fairfield County Bank, Attorney Daniel DiBartolomeo, Allison Homberg of Brookfield Insurance, and Patty McManus of William Pitt Realty. In the two-hour evening session, they explained the steps to take before searching for a home, the advantages of home ownership, and how to qualify for a mortgage. The workshop also reviewed the basics of home mortgages and practical financial planning.
