As part of the global family of donors and volunteers, Housatonic Habitat builds houses so that families have a place to grow. Here are a few ways their lives have been changed.
Ana works several jobs as a single mom. Determined to own her own home, she developed a long-range plan that incorporated her family’s buy in. As a result, her son graduated from WCSU and earned an MBA. Her daughter, just seven when she moved into her new Habitat home, is now an excellent student.
Nicole works at Danbury Hospital and often supplements her income with a second job. During one exchange with her teenage daughter, it was argued that her mother didn’t finish her degree. Nicole signed up for courses online, continued to work two jobs, and now is a proud graduate that pushes her daughter to do the same.
Sarah and Jim moved east for a job opportunity only to find they could not afford a home. With two sons, they wanted to put a permanent roof over their heads. With Habitat’s help they did! Their sons have graduated from college and Sarah says it is now time to install the wood floors she has always wanted!
Lateisha worked with the Family Selection Committee for two years before qualifying. She remembers enrolling her daughter in kindergarten next to Habitat’s condos. Her life has improved tremendously – including a marriage and the birth of a son.
