Stacy L. Butkus, Principal of Henry Abbott Technical High School, was elected to the Housatonic Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.
Butkus was named principal of Abbott Tech in 2014 after joining as assistant principal six years earlier. The Waterbury resident began her career as a high school teacher in Wethersfield before joining Waterbury Public Schools where she gained increasing senior positions during her 10-year tenure.
“We are pleased to have Stacy join our board not only because of Abbott’s current students but also because of the alumni who have graduated from this terrific school,” said Fran Normann, Executive Director. “Stacy’s enthusiasm and experience for education and the trades are a match with our mission.” More than 600 students are enrolled in the technical high school which offers 12 occupational careers. “We are impressed that each student receives both a diploma and certificate in their chosen trade.” Housatonic Habitat for Humanity is both a builder and a bank, offering affordable homes for working families who qualify for homeownership under the Habitat model.
