Erica’s journey with Housatonic Habitat for Humanity began when she saw a flyer at work and decided to explore the organization’s affordable housing program. Prior to partnering with Habitat, Erica lived paycheck to paycheck in an expensive apartment. The process of applying involved submitting personal and financial information, attending orientations, and participating in homebuyer education classes. With Habitat’s assistance, including down payment grants and personalized financial planning, Erica was able to purchase a condo for herself and her family, which brought significant stability and a sense of community to their lives.
Becoming a homeowner has profoundly impacted Erica and her family by providing security, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to build lasting memories. The experience also allowed Erica to feel more connected to her community through volunteering and helping neighbors. Beyond the initial home acquisition, Housatonic Habitat for Humanity has continued to support her, even assisting her family through a recent crisis when their condo burned down. Erica encourages others to consider applying or getting involved, highlighting the empowerment, personal growth, and community connections she has gained through her journey with Habitat.
